Cosmic Whispers
“Cosmic Whispers” is a compilation of three different series by Aazam Irilian, demonstrating distinctive phases of the artist’s growth—technically and artistically.
Paintings in this exhibition all have in common the process—a meditative process. It is this process that allows the artist to go beyond the physical and tap into the energy of the worlds around her, painting the undercurrent of what seems to be visible.
Focusing on the process and with no attachment, the artist intuitively pours the colors onto the canvas, allowing them to melt into each other, creating new hues, tints and shade. Dancing in curvilinear formation, the fluid paints gracefully move on the canvas like Dervishes twirling into a meditative state. A process which takes her away to a world beyond the physical—a world of dreams and imagination, where all is possible.
Crystal formation on her canvases are another unique characteristic of Aazam Irilian’s paintings. Experimenting with variety of minerals in combination with different mediums create unique textures and interesting patterns on her canvases. For Irilian, each application of mineral solution pushes her further into the unknown, challenging her to stay focused in the moment.
It is in this meditative state that she taps into her memories and pulls forward the beauty she feels exist in these worlds. Using her hands as her tools, she allows “the creative energy to dance through her and land onto the canvas.” Through each painting in this exhibition, she strives to demonstrate the beauty of life and the world around us—whether visible or invisible to our eyes.

About Aazam Irilian
Aazam Irilian was born in Iran and has resided in Southern California since 1977. Her extensive experience in a broad range of mediums is led by her passion for painting and sculpture. She is also an art educator with a Masters degree in Art Education as well as being certified both as a practitioner in, NLP, Therapeutic Imagery and in Social Emotional Arts (SEA)*.
